The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games took place from 23 July to 8 August 2021 after being postponed due to the COVID‑19 pandemic. The Games featured 11,319 athletes from 206 NOCs competing in 339 events across 33 sports, introduced new disciplines like skateboarding, surfing, karate, and sport climbing, and were held largely without spectators under strict safety protocols.
Despite the unique challenges, Tokyo 2020 achieved historic Olympic milestones - such as the first ever gold medal-sharing in high jump - and highlighted its resilience and innovation through sustainable practices like medals crafted from recycled electronics and strong pandemic-era health measures
